Department of Mathematics

Dean Message:

In the year 2019, University started to reshape its conventional academic and administrative structures for the contemporary needs and challenges. As a result, the number of departments and faculties have been increased, new disciples have been created, and new programs are initiated. This new faculty is also the segment of that revolutionization, for a more rewarding administrative control as per requirement of the students, faculty, and of course university, too. This significant faculty consists of department of Geography, department of Mathematics, and Institute of Physics (which also include a diverse group of 11 disciplines). These important scientific areas are very attractive for the students not only for job perspective but also to boost the impact of such useful scientific tools and skills that are in the domain of Physical and Mathematical Science. This faculty has all potential to grow further, and to benefit the society, drastically through its impactful research as well as a very good and trained human resource.

Introduction:

The department of Mathematics was established in 2019 at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan Campus and initially launched its BS Mathematics program. Demonstrating steady academic growth, the department expanded its offerings in 2021 to include MSc and MPhil programs. In response to global technological advances and market demand, the department launched its flagship program: BS Mathematics with Artificial Intelligence. Modern Artificial Intelligence relies heavily on core mathematical foundations—including linear algebra, calculus, probability, optimization, and graph theory. By bridging pure mathematical theory with cutting-edge AI techniques, machine learning, and data science, this specialized program equips students to develop intelligent algorithms, design predictive models, and solve complex, real-world computational challenges. The Department of Mathematics unites pure, applied, and computational mathematics under a single unified domain. It is backed by a dedicated faculty of nine members, including five PhD holders—actively engaged in teaching and research supervision at the M. Phil level and Ph. D levels. The faculty's diverse research expertise allows students to choose from a broad spectrum of research tracks. Our rigorous curriculum provides deep domain expertise and aims to graduate mathematicians capable of meeting the technical demands of modern industry, research institutions, and public organizations. Graduates of the department enjoy rewarding career paths, with alumni serving in administrative roles, education, banking, tech sectors, and law enforcement.

Vision:

Our vision is to achieve unparalleled excellence through the delivery of high-quality academic instruction, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and conducting cutting-edge research. We aim to cultivate the intellectual, professional, and ethical growth of individuals as well as contribute positively to industry and society as a whole.

Mission:

Our mission is to advance the integration of diverse knowledge domains, including the sciences, arts, humanities, and various fields of scholarship. We strive to accomplish this by promoting interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and research. Specifically, our focus lies in the realms of pure, applied, computational, financial, and industrial mathematics. Through these efforts, we aim to nurture a cadre of intellectual, expert, and ethical professionals who are instrumental in driving technological advancements for the betterment of both industry and society
